At ABE Federal Credit Union, protecting your personal and financial information is one of our top priorities. While we use advanced safeguards and monitoring systems, you also play an important role in protecting yourself.
Scams & Identity Theft
-
ABE will never ask for your password, PIN, or confidential information by email, text, or phone.
-
If you receive a suspicious message claiming to be from ABE, do not respond. Instead, contact us directly.
-
Educate yourself on common fraud types. The more you know the better prepared you will be.
Phishing Emails & Texts
-
Phishing messages pretend to be from trusted organizations to trick you into giving personal information.
-
Warning signs include threats such as “your account will be frozen” or fake fraud alerts.
-
Do not click suspicious links, attachments, or pop-ups. They may install malware.
-
Look for secure websites before entering information. The URL should begin with https:// and show a padlock symbol.
Vishing Attempts (Phone Scams)
-
Scammers can spoof phone numbers, so they appear to be from ABE.
-
They may claim there are fraudulent transactions on your account and ask you to “verify” information.
-
Hang up immediately and call your local branch or Member Services directly:

Fake Check Scams
-
Scammers may send checks that look real and ask you to wire back part of the funds.
-
If you deposit the check and it later proves fake, you are responsible for the money withdrawn.
-
Warning signs:
- Payment for items sold online but with an overpayment.
- Winnings from a lottery you never entered.
- Requests to wire money quickly to another country.
-
If you suspect a fake check scam, do not deposit it. Report it to the National Fraud Information Center.
